Katherine holds a B.A in Art History/Studio Arts from the University of Minnesota. She has also studied with Jean Noel Guermonprez (sculpture), Carrie Burns Brown (collage), Larry Blovits (pastel), and Gerald Brommer (watercolor). She has long been an active member of the Lake Country Pastel Society and the Northstar Watermedia Society. She has taught art and exhibited work in many venues throughout Minnesota.
Katherine is unique in her ability to work across both genre (landscape, still life, floral, and abstract) and media (acrylic, watercolor, pastel, collage, sculpture and assemblage). She frequently sets up a personal artistic challenge (painting a series or severely limiting her palette, for example) to further develop her understanding and command of medium and methods.
Katherine’s watercolor and pastel techniques are traditional, while her abstract painting methods can be quite unusual, combining a free-wheeling variety of materials and techniques. Some abstracts can reach 25 or more layers by completion. But no matter the genre, her strong design sense is always evident. She welcomes questions, ideas, and comments on her methods and techniques.
Her primary goal is to engage the viewer to look more deeply at the work, and, perhaps, to both inform and surprise.
She is represented by UpNorth Gallery in Lindstrom, MN and participates in numerous exhibition opportunities throughout Minnesota.
